I'm Back After My Ten Year Hiatus

Hey everybody. The 10 years were mostly good. Key points/highlights:

  • Finally made the move to Data Scientist after some years of wanting to do so (2018)
  • COVID brought with it a temporary 'normalization' of remote work, so I found a job which was a better fit for me, pays more, and has been good to me so far (2022)
  • 'partially' moved from Indiana to Vermont (2022)
  • Left Bloominglabs on account of not living in Bloomington anymore (that and we had been kind of drifting our own ways some years. Still some cool people there, don't get me wrong)
  • I was one of only 8 people to end up with more money than I started with ($0) in crypto (2020-present, now it's just sitting there 'Staking' after I yanked it from the scam I rode along on (hosted a hotspot somebody else paid for out of my house) with some friends ('Helium: the 'People's Network' which nobody ended up ever actually using) and converted to Ethereum).
Why the hell am I back on Blogger.com of all things? Well, I do have my 'secret Substack' which mainly served as a kind of weird therapy around unresolved issues and persistent bad feelings (grudges?) toward my previous employer (no, I am never forgiving them for sticking us in an open plan shithole. For that reason alone I am likely to choose the shittiest of shit jobs over a 'return to office'. Sure, I'll shovel the shit out of the barn at the Dairy Farm, as long as I don't have to try to work while watching traffic in and out of the women's restroom and overhearing the guy next to me on his call with people in Australia and Ireland. Hopefully that statement isn't tested anytime soon.) Boy, did I give certain people in upper management the business! So you won't be seeing THAT here.

I have been up to a couple things here and there. Even with work providing ongoing intellectual challenges to keep me out of trouble I enjoy the side hacking. I also formerly enjoyed writing about the side hacking. Increasingly, social media presents the lowest form of empty calories. Destroying relationships with family and friends on Facebook. Somehow being unable to escape hearing about Elon's idiotic activities on Xitter no matter how hard you try to black him and his army of dick riders. The ups and downs of the less execrable, but still execrable reddit.

I tried Mastodon, sure, I found like 2 or 3 people of interest and before you know it I was sick of them. Not as sick as I was of Elon, but some variety would be nice. Bluesky was even less fulfilling, engagement wise. So I am back at the pinnacle of social media and Web 2.0 (even as tech bros are trying with all their might to make Web 3 happen)

So sometime soon (unless I disappear for another 10 years) I will elaborate on my Chrome plugin to erase Elon from your web experience, the 'speed camera' I set up to catch ne'er do wells zipping through my new little New England town, and whatever else I get up to. See you soon(?)
